ALICE & THE CAT
Talk Life, Destiny & Madness
The Most Iconic Duo in Wonderland

WE'RE ALL
MAD HERE.

She fell. He grinned. The rest is history. Alice and the Cheshire Cat open up about the encounter that changed everything — and what comes next for Wonderland's favorite pair.

Alice looking up at the Cheshire Cat in the glowing forest
"I've often seen a cat without a grin... but never a grin without a cat."

"He looked at me like he already knew how the story ended. That smile wasn't cruel — it was the kindest thing in Wonderland."

— Alice, exclusively to Wonderland Weekly

There's a particular quality of light in the glade where we meet them. Soft and lavender and slightly impossible, the way most things in Wonderland are slightly impossible. Alice is already seated when we arrive, her blue dress catching the luminescence, her expression one of amused patience. The Cat — true to form — arrives in pieces. Eyes first. Then the magnificent, infuriating grin.

"I do have a whole body," he remarks, assembling himself gracefully into the fork of a tree above her head. "I simply prefer to let people wonder about it."

"He's been doing that since the day we met," Alice says, and her voice carries the particular warmth of someone who has long since stopped being surprised by someone they love. "It used to unsettle me. Now I find it comforting. He's always there. Just... selectively visible."

The question we've all been asking — the question that has launched a thousand think-pieces across the surface world — is what exactly binds these two together. They are, on paper, an unlikely pairing. A girl of fierce rationality and a creature of pure paradox. A mind that wants answers and a spirit that delights in better questions.

"I think," Alice says carefully, "that he understood something about me before I understood it myself. That I wasn't searching for a destination. I was searching for permission to be curious. He gave me that. No conditions. No caveats. Just — go. Wonder. Follow the question wherever it leads."

The Cat is quiet for a moment, which is unusual. When he speaks, his voice has lost its usual playful lilt. "She reminded me," he says simply, "that even for someone as ancient and odd as I am, the world can still be surprising. That's not nothing. That's everything, actually."

✦ WHERE ARE THEY GOING?  ·  WHAT ARE THEY PLOTTING?  ·  WHY DOES HE ALWAYS DISAPPEAR?  ·  ANSWERS INSIDE ✦

As for what they're plotting — Alice laughs and reaches up toward the branch where the Cat is draped. "He says it's a secret," she says. "But last week he led me through six impossible doors and two perfectly normal hedgerows to a tea garden in a part of Wonderland I'd never seen. He had a very specific table in mind. He'd clearly been before."

"I return to places that matter," the Cat says, unapologetically. "That tea garden has the best bergamot in three dimensions. And the company was agreeable."

Alice catches our eye. "He means me," she says, delighted. "He never just says things directly. After all this time, I've learned to translate."

WHAT THE CHESHIRE CAT
REALLY MEANS

Every riddle, every half-vanished truth. We've spent three issues decoding his philosophy — and what we found will change how you see everything.

Alice with WHO? graffiti and the Drink Me bottle
The question Wonderland never stops asking

"We're all mad here." It sounds like a warning. It sounds nihilistic, even. Read it again slowly, with the Cat's voice in your head — that languid, amused rumble. Hear how it doesn't condemn. It invites. It says: you don't have to pretend here. Everyone in Wonderland is already operating outside the rules of sense. You're not broken for feeling the same way. You belong.

Then there's the famous directional wisdom: if you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there. Every wellness account on the internet has stolen this. What they miss is the tone. He said it cheerfully, to a child who was terrified. The point wasn't that destinations don't matter — it was that the journey itself is not wasted time. Even the wrong roads teach you something. Even the dead ends have views.

What about disappearing? His habit of vanishing entirely — except for the grin — has been called everything from rude to philosophically significant. We lean toward the latter. What lingers after someone leaves a room? Their warmth. Their particular way of laughing. Their light. The Cat understood this instinctively. He distilled himself to his most essential quality — joy — and made it the last thing you see. That's not a trick. That's a lesson in legacy.

Finally: his advice to Alice about which road to take. She asks which way to go. He asks where she wants to get to. She says she doesn't much care. And then — only then — he tells her that means it doesn't much matter which way she goes. He was listening to her actual answer before providing his own. He required self-knowledge before offering direction. Most advisors could learn from this. Most people, frankly, could too.

"He required you to know yourself before he'd say anything useful. The wisest ones always do."

Gossip · Rumours · Things We Definitely Shouldn't Know

CURIOUSER
& CURIOUSER

All the whispers from the garden walls. Names are protected. The cats talk.

🌹 THE PAINTED ROSES

A source very close to the royal garden — we're saying nothing more — tells us the rose-painting situation is entirely self-inflicted. The Red Queen apparently ordered white roses herself in 1987, forgot she'd done it, and has been threatening heads about it ever since. The gardeners know. They're too frightened to say.

🎩 THE HATTER'S SECRET

We've received three separate tips this month that the Mad Hatter's tea party is not actually perpetual. Apparently it ends at 6:01pm every evening, he goes home, watches something sensible on television, and is back at the table by 5:59am. The madness, it seems, has a schedule. He is extremely punctual about being late.

🐱 CHESHIRE SPOTTED

Reliable sources (three talking flowers and a particularly gossipy caterpillar) report that the Cheshire Cat has been seen — in full, visible form — attending the same tea garden in the Eastern Wood every Tuesday at 3pm. He always takes the corner table. He always orders the bergamot. He is always, allegedly, waiting for someone. No further comment from the Cat's representatives.

🐇 WHITE RABBIT DRAMA

The White Rabbit has officially filed a formal complaint with the Wonderland Scheduling Bureau about the concept of time in general. His legal team (two hedgehogs and a playing card who passed the bar) are pursuing what they're calling "chronological negligence." The Queen is unmoved. The clocks haven't changed. Nothing in Wonderland has changed. The hedgehogs are billing by the hour.

❤️ ALICE & THE CAT: STATUS?

We'll say only this: they were seen leaving the tea garden together last Tuesday. She was laughing. He was visible. Both of those things are significant. Neither is commenting. We're choosing to find this extremely meaningful.

✦   BEAUTY & GLOW   ✦
Beauty Tutorial · Step by Step

THE CHESHIRE
GLOW-UP

Channel the Cat's mystique and Alice's wonder. The definitive Wonderland beauty guide — from the grin to the shimmer.

1

The Skin: Moonlit Base

Start with a luminous, almost-wet base. Think: you've just emerged from a very elegant puddle of magical water. Dewy, cool, slightly otherworldly. Avoid matte entirely — in Wonderland, flatness is suspicious.

2

The Eyes: The Cat's Gaze

Green-gold shadow swept from inner corner to the very outer edge. Then deeper — a smoky charcoal at the socket line. The effect should suggest that you know something. You're not telling. The liner wings dramatically upward. You are, after all, a creature of trees and starlight.

3

The Highlight: Iridescent

Pressed holographic pigment on the highest points of the cheekbones, the brow bone, the cupid's bow. You should look like you've been lightly touched by a rainbow that couldn't quite decide on a color. This is correct. This is the goal.

4

The Lip: Alice Pink

A soft, surprised pink. Not quite mauve, not quite candy — the particular pink of someone who has just heard something deeply interesting. Gloss over the top. You should look like you're perpetually mid-thought, which, honestly, is the correct state to be in.

5

The Finish: Disappear Well

A light dusting of loose lavender setting powder. Let everything soften at the edges. You're not trying to look sharp — you're trying to look like you might, at any moment, be somewhere else. The grin is optional. It helps, though.

WHAT'S IN ALICE'S BAG?

She confirmed nothing. We investigated anyway. The findings were illuminating.

Must-Have

Iridescent Setting Spray

Sets everything with a fine holographic mist. Smells faintly of something pleasant you can't quite name. The Cat confirmed it's bergamot.

💜
Editor's Choice

Lavender Loose Powder

Breathes a violet haze over everything. Sets the look somewhere between dreaming and awake, which is exactly where we all want to be.

💚
Iconic

Green-Gold Eye Pigment

The exact shade of the Cat's eyes in moonlight. We asked the Cat directly. He described it as "the color of knowing something delicious." We found it at the bottom of the rabbit hole.

💕
The Finishing Touch

Alice Pink Gloss

The specific pink of mild astonishment. Plumping formula. Lasts through tea parties, croquet, and at least one confrontation with royalty.

Astrology · Divination · Wonderland Guidance

SUMMER 2026 READINGS

The Cat has peered into every teacup. The leaves never lie — they simply rearrange the truth into something more interesting.

♈ Aries
Fire · The Red Queen

You have been saying "off with their heads" metaphorically for months. This season, try saying "I feel unheard" instead. Revolutionary. Possibly even more terrifying.

Lucky: Red roses. Avoid: Painting them white.

♉ Taurus
Earth · The Dormouse

You have been asleep in the teapot long enough. Something is stirring. It may be you. Investigate before the Hatter pours more tea on the situation.

Lucky: Treacle. Avoid: Sudden awakenings.

♊ Gemini
Air · The Tweedles

You contain multitudes. They're arguing again. A decision you've been delaying since spring requires actual resolution — not another round of "contrariwise." Choose, Gemini. Either way wins.

Lucky: Both options. Avoid: Neither.

♋ Cancer
Water · The Pool of Tears

Your feelings have become a navigable body of water. This is impressive. Consider building a small raft from your most stable emotions and paddling toward something drier.

Lucky: Small white mice. Avoid: Very sad songs.

♌ Leo
Fire · The Cheshire Cat

You have been visible when you wanted to be mysterious and mysterious when you should have been present. Consider reversing this. The grin is not enough on its own, Leo. Show up fully.

Lucky: Treetops. Avoid: Complete disappearances.

♍ Virgo
Earth · The White Rabbit

You are late. You are always late, despite every system you've built to not be late. The calendar is correct. The problem is that you keep finding rabbit holes. Stop checking the watch. Start being present.

Lucky: Comfortable waistcoats. Avoid: Underground shortcuts.

♎ Libra
Air · Alice

You have been weighing every decision since April. The scales are stuck. Here is the secret the Cat whispered to us specifically for you: there is no wrong door when you're genuinely curious about what's behind it.

Lucky: Any door, really. Avoid: Standing in doorways too long.

♏ Scorpio
Water · The Caterpillar

You know something significant that you haven't shared yet. You've been considering your response since March. The answer is yes, the timing is now, and the mushroom is optional at this point.

Lucky: Quiet afternoons. Avoid: Being asked direct questions.

♐ Sagittarius
Fire · The Rabbit Hole

You are, as ever, in freefall — and you have started enjoying it. This is the breakthrough everyone around you has been waiting for. What you find at the bottom will be strange. Magnificent. Probably talking.

Lucky: The fall itself. Avoid: Rushing the landing.

♑ Capricorn
Earth · The Duchess

You have been managing everyone's chaos with quiet ruthless efficiency. Nobody has thanked you. This season, invoice them. Metaphorically. Or actually. Both are valid. The hedgehogs have a legal team now.

Lucky: Organized chaos. Avoid: Pepper in excess.

♒ Aquarius
♒ Aquarius
Air · The Mad Hatter

The party you've been hosting in your mind has been going on since 1998. Some of the original guests have left. New ones have arrived. The tea is still hot. The question is: who are you actually celebrating, and are they still here?

Lucky: Peculiar hats. Avoid: Checking the time.

♓ Pisces
Water · The Looking Glass

You have been on the other side of something for longer than intended. The mirror is not a trap — it's a threshold. Step back through. Everything you left behind has been wondering where you went. Especially the Cat.

Lucky: Reflections. Avoid: Getting stuck in them.

Style Report · Summer 2026

FASHION FROM
THE RABBIT HOLE

Wonderland's sartorial scene has always been years ahead of the surface world. This season: three looks, zero rules, infinite shimmer.

Alice in holographic dress with Drink Me bottle
Look 01

Holographic

Rainbow-shift fabrics that refract with every step. Silver boots with wedge heels shaped like crescent moons. A cat-eye so sharp it leaves a visible mark on the air. The Cheshire Cat approved this personally. He was visible for eight entire minutes. A record.

Alice in pink dress with NOW typography under starry sky
Look 02

Dreamcore

Soft lilac tulle. Oversized bows in midnight blue. Lace at the wrist and the hem. Stars pinned into the hair like they simply landed there. The overall effect is someone mid-dream who is, paradoxically, completely in control of everything.

Alice in NEVER typography dress with Drink Me bottle
Look 03

Mad Tea Party

Chaotic layering. Patterns that argue with each other charmingly. Hats stacked on hats. Clocks worn as jewelry — none of them showing the correct time, because that would be beside the point. Being punctual is optional. Looking extraordinary is not.

The iridescent pinafore Alice wore during our cover interview sold out in eleven minutes across four dimensions. Twelve crafters on the surface world have posted tutorials. None of them have got the shimmer quite right. It's not the fabric, we're told. It's the intention behind wearing it. You have to believe, slightly, that you might disappear.

The Hatter's contribution to this season cannot be overstated. Uninvited to our fashion meeting, he arrived anyway wearing seven hats simultaneously and pronounced the whole concept of a single outfit "provincial." Then he ate a small sandwich and left. His aesthetic note: wear something you'd never wear at a sensible event, then wear two more things on top. The outfit should look like it's having a better time than you are. We have printed this on a card. It lives above the fashion desk.

A MENU FOR THE MAGNIFICENTLY UNHINGED

The Hatter provided these notes. We have not fact-checked them. Fact-checking seems unfair in this context.

  • Bergamot Earl Grey — Served in mismatched cups. No saucer matches its cup. This is intentional. Harmony is for people with too much time.
  • Treacle Tart — The Dormouse insists on this. Do not wake him to ask why. The answer takes four hours and involves a story about a well.
  • Lavender Shortbread — Cut into the shapes of playing cards. The fours are missing. They always go missing. Nobody talks about it.
  • Rose Petal Jam — Made from white roses. Painted pink after the fact. The Queen is unaware. Please keep it this way.
  • Impossible Macarons — Flavors include: "Tuesday Afternoon," "The Feeling of Almost Remembering Something," and "Bergamot, Again."
  • Moving Sandwiches — These don't exist at the party. They simply appear when you stop looking for them. Set a place for them anyway.
✦   TOP 10: THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT WONDERLAND   ✦
Investigative Report · We Went In. We Asked Questions.

10 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW
ABOUT WONDERLAND

We spent three weeks embedded in Wonderland. What we found surprised everyone, including us.

Alice falling upside down through the rabbit hole
Field research is occasionally upside down
1

The Rabbit Hole Has a Waiting Room

Nobody talks about it. It's between floors three and four. There's a magazine rack. The magazines are all old issues of Wonderland Weekly. This is, somehow, fine.

2

The Flowers Are the Best Gossips

Not just the talking ones. All of them. The silent ones especially. They know everything. They simply lack vocal cords. Considered a mercy by most Wonderland residents.

3

Time Actually Works Here

Just... sideways. Thursdays arrive on Wednesdays. Next week is technically happening right now in the Eastern Wood. This is why the Rabbit is always late: he's operating on the correct time. Everyone else is wrong.

4

The Queen Has Never Actually Executed Anyone

The cards do paperwork. Very elaborate, legally thorough paperwork. The sentences are technically handed down. The executions are perpetually pending appeal. She is furious about this. The hedgehogs are unmoved.

5

There Is a Café

In the place between the forest and the garden. It has no name. It has excellent scones. The Cheshire Cat goes every Tuesday. He has a regular order. The staff pretend they don't notice him. He has never tipped. He has also never actually left.

6

The Mushroom Has a Guest Book

The Caterpillar keeps records. Alice signed it. The White Rabbit signed it three times, each time in different states of urgency. The Hatter has signed it with increasingly ambitious titles. His latest: "Grand Temporal Disruptor and Licensed Milliner."

7

The Cards Have a Union

Formed in 1922. Their core demand: no more painting. They have not successfully negotiated this. The roses remain painted. The grievance remains open. The next round of talks is scheduled for next Thursday, which means last Wednesday.

8

Alice Has Been Back Six Times

Three intentional. Two accidental. One she still won't discuss. The Cat was present for all six. He claims coincidence. The coincidence has excellent timing and knows her tea order.

9

The Cheshire Cat Is Extremely Old

He will not confirm a number. When pressed, he said: "older than curiosity, younger than wonder." We asked a follow-up. He disappeared. The grin remained for twenty-two minutes. This is his longest on record.

10

Wonderland Knows You're Reading This

The Cat confirmed it. He said you seemed curious. He approves. He also says you've been thinking about something important for longer than necessary and that the answer is probably the one that scares you slightly. He then vanished. As ever, just the grin remained.

Penelope S., Age 29, Surface World

"I had a dream last week that I was at the tea party and there was a spare cup set out and nobody knew who it was for. I sat down and somehow it was for me and the tea was perfect and I woke up feeling more rested than I have in years. I think about it constantly. What does it mean?"

It means you belong somewhere you haven't let yourself arrive yet. The cup has always been yours. You've simply been standing outside the garden. — WW

J.T., Age 44, "Somewhere reasonable"

"I don't believe any of this is real and I'm not sure why I've subscribed for twelve years. I just wanted to say that the horoscopes are always right and I'm a Virgo and I am indeed always late and I have no idea why."

The Cat says it's because you know the right time but choose the interesting route. He also says to stop apologizing for it. The interesting route is the point. — WW

Madeleine R., Age 17, East London

"I painted my room purple and covered the ceiling in gold stars and my mum says it looks like Wonderland and honestly that's the best thing anyone has ever said to me. Please keep making the magazine. It's the only one I actually read all the way through."

Your ceiling is correct. Your mum is perceptive. Keep the stars. — WW

Anonymous, "A very large mushroom"

"Tell Alice she left her ribbon the last time she was here. I've been keeping it. It seemed important. Also tell her the answer to the question she was asking herself at 3am last Tuesday is yes."

We passed this along. Alice said: "I know." She looked like she'd been waiting to hear it confirmed. — WW

The Cheshire Cat, The Eastern Wood

"I would like it noted, for the record, that I am not 'unreliable.' I am selectively present. There is a meaningful distinction. Also, the bergamot scone review in your last issue was accurate and generous and I do not care that I care about this."

Noted. The distinction is acknowledged. The scone review stands. — WW
